Sandwich Workshop, ReprisedLast week I blogged about how I had the honor and pleasure of teaching a Creative Sandwich Making Workshop at the Library, and this past week we enjoyed some of the leftovers which I want to share with you, inasmuch as that is possible in print? Okay, not exactly share, just share the recipe then.So here goes, Roasted Onions from Tom Colicchio’s ‘wichcraft recipe

Cooking School: Sandwich Workshop
Cooking School: Sandwich Workshop!Cross this off the bucket list: teaching a cooking class. The class was held at our Library and was supposed to run from 2 – 3, but since we were still merrily cooking away and eating at 4, the Children’s Department wanted to know how long it would take for us to clean up? (Longer than the 5 minutes I said, but we were up and out before the children’s program
Digital Conversion Service at SBPL
Summer nights were always a nice time to set up the projector with its 8 mm reels of past vacation fun. We’d gather all the available friends and family around the big white screen, cook the Jiffy Pop, pour the punch and spend the evening laughing at each other.Of course that was more than 30 years ago! Watching home movies with the family today is still a fun way to get together for a few laughs
This Week I Discovered ... Cold Antler Farm in Upstate New York
South Brunswick Public Library ... Your Guide to Discovery...Like many great journeys of discovery, this one began at the Library. It was my great pleasure this past weekend to highlight a personal three-year journey of discovery that began at the South Brunswick Public Library and led me to an Urban Homesteading workshop by author Jenna Woginrich in Upstate New York. The self-taught farmer hosts
Good Flicks You Might Have Missed….
Here are some more little-known favorites from our collection. Check them out and let me know what you think! The Mothman PropheciesStarring Richard Gere & Laura Linney. After the tragic death of his wife, a journalist finds himself in a town where many inhabitants have experienced the same visions his wife experienced before her death. This is a creepy tale that will make the hairs on the back of
Thanksgiving in Paradise
In one of my previous blogs on travel, I shared our dilemma about where to take a November vacation. Well, we just returned from Aruba, where we spent Thanksgiving week, and I can tell you that we made a great choice! Aruba advertises itself as "one happy island" and that is certainly true. The natives enjoy a high standard of living from the influx of tourist dollars which results in a happy
I Found a Farm at the Library
In these unstable economic times around the world a young American author named Jenna Woginrich is inspiring readers of her books, tweets, and blog posts to take charge. To learn to be more self-sufficient while being environmentally conscious. Jenna is no whiner. She is on her feet trying, making mistakes, and learning. You can occupy Wall Street if you want. No offense to the occupiers, but I
Tablets! Tablets!
It seems that the biggest new thing in technology these days are tablets. In case you don't know tablets are compact and very portable computers. Really more like a very big smartphone than a laptop. Many of us have heard of the brilliant iPad created by the late Steve Jobs, but there is also the Android tablet that offers some things that the iPad doesn't. Read about it here in Consumer
The World Inside SBPL
The South Brunswick Public Library is probably one of the best first stops for anyone new to living in the United States. This is true for at least a half dozen reasons. The first is obvious as soon as you walk through the front door and past the Checkout Desk. Our World Language Collection, located to the rear left of the Desk, includes shelves of books, magazines, movies, music, and instruction
Read the Book Then See the Movie!
This week's dreary weather of rain and more rain is a perfect excuse to head to the local movie theaters. But be sure to stop by the South Brunswick Library along the way because many of this summer's movie releases (and some due out this fall) are based on some excellent novels. Afterwards, take a moment to comment on our blog and let us know which is better, the book or the movie?!Two books I
International Film Festival Never Ends!
While the Summer International Film Festival will end this week it is by no means the end of free international film presentations at the Library! It's just not as often. The Summer program, which had its last showing on Aug. 17 with the Italian film Look At Me, offers a different film each week, twice. The rest of the year movie goers get a different film each month, twice. Times are always 2
Grownups Get Special Attention Too!
With all of the programs the Library offers for children, teens, and tweens a person might not notice that right there in the middle of the day in the middle of the week are 90 minutes just for grownups. It's called Wednesday Wisdom. Every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. is "a program of interest just for adults." It may be a lecture, a documentary film, a discussion about a play or book, or something
